We recently had the pleasure of working on this beautiful British Racing Green Jaguar S-Type in our workshop.

The customer came in complaining of a loud rattling and squealing noise from the engine bay, especially on cold starts and when revving the engine. After a thorough inspection, we confirmed that the drive belt tensioner and idler pulley were worn out and failing.

What We Did:

• Replaced the faulty drive belt tensioner
• Replaced the worn idler pulley
• Fitted a new auxiliary drive belt
• Checked and tensioned all related components
• Performed a full road test to ensure smooth and quiet operation

These components are critical in Jaguar V6 and V8 engines. If left unchecked, a failing drive belt tensioner or pulley can cause annoying noises, poor belt alignment, and in the worst cases, the belt can snap, leading to significant damage and the need for major engine repair.

This Jaguar S-Type is now running smoothly and quietly again. The owner was delighted with the transformation!

Common Symptoms of a Failing Drive Belt Tensioner:

• Rattling or squealing noises from the front of the engine
• Visible wear or play in the pulley
• Belt slipping or glazing
• Warning lights on the dashboard
